Full Time Traveling Families You Need to Follow

While I was writing up my roundup of Expats You Need to Follow a few families came up on my radar that seemed to deserve a category to themselves. Full time traveling families, fully nomadic families without a traditional home-base, or families doing a family gap year. These situations have their own nuances, challenges, and benefits. This is intended to be a resource for others who may be considering an option like this for their own family. If you’re considering doing this, I hope you will be able to reach out to these families to ask them about their unique experiences. Community can make a world of difference, you need to find people who can really “get” your situation.

Read more below about these full time traveling families and their individual situations. Give them a follow and check out their websites!

We’re a family of slow, nomadic travelers who can spend up to 10 months in a place before moving on. We travel the globe, specifically focusing on islands. We began traveling as a couple two years ago and welcomed our baby into the world in Thailand, on the island of Koh Samui. Since then, we’ve kept the travel bug going and have adventured through 8 countries as a family. Our favorite activities are outside - when we’re not working on our blog (or our remote jobs), you can find us swimming, snorkeling, hiking, or building forts in our backyards.

We sold everything in 2013. We just celebrated our 10th year traveling as a nomadic family of five by dropping our two oldest off at university in a country we have never lived. This is our life, our why, and our purpose. We focus on vision, values, and mindful travel and we are honored to be on this journey with any adventurous souls we meet virtually or in person. One thing we know for sure is there is no finish line and we are excited about what is next for us as we blaze our next trail with one teenager instead of three under our ever-changing roof. We look forward to connecting with anyone who sees this. Buon viaggio from our current home in the Italian Alps!

We are a nomadic family of three travelling the world. We have done 6 months so far. 3 months in Italy & 3 months in the UK (England, Scotland & Wales) and now we are in Spain! We don’t know how long we will continue this lifestyle, but we love learning, growing & experiencing amazing country’s, people and food on this journey.

Our family of four (plus dog) has been traveling full-time for the last 10 years. We are based out of our van as our home on wheels, taking it wherever we want to go and generally not following a set route or schedule.

Though we do have some plans, ideas and goals for the next few years of traveling, being flexible and open to spontaneous changes is one of the great advantages of how we travel.

We tend to spend about 3-6 months a year slow-traveling globally without our van, and we just got back from a 2 month trip to Japan where we rented a small camper or stayed in local homes.

We're deep into a family gap year with our 3 teens, traveling around the world together and learning from every place and person we come across.

We have found that we all love the freedom and insight that this life gives us, and that none of us are keen to return to the every day rat race of our former life.

With just a couple months left of the initial gap year we are currently considering what may be next and how we can continue a life of travel and intention together.
