Light-up Toys

The nighttime shows and parades at Disney Parks are so much fun. Often you have to claim a spot early in order to have a good view. While you wait there will be vendors selling very expensive light up toys that every kid is sure to want. Save some cash by bringing your own glow sticks and light-up toys! It will save you money and a meltdown while waiting for the show to begin. Bring extra glow sticks and pass them out to the kids around you. Their parents will surely thank you and it will be fun to spread some magic!

Ponchos

Ponchos can make a huge difference if the weather forecast calls for rain during your Disney Parks visit. Rain will clear out the crowds, but if you are prepared, the fun doesn’t have to stop. Throw on a poncho and take advantage of all the short lines! They are so lightweight and fold up small, so they are easy to keep in your backpack. There are sizes for adults and kids so everyone is covered! You can also put these on before going on a water ride if you don’t want to get wet.

Fans

Fans are especially important when visiting Disney World outside of the winter months. Trust me, you’ll be glad you have these. If you wait and buy them in the park they are double the price! Fill these with water for a gentle mist to cool you down. For a family of 4, I would buy 2 fans. This was also great for our baby while he was in the stroller. We could prop it up or hold it so it would give him a cool breeze while he napped and we waited for the big kids to do their rides.

Autograph Books & Sharpies

If your little one likes to meet characters, they will definitely want to bring an autograph book! These can make a fun souvenir filled with the signatures of all the fun characters they meet. I like to use retractable Sharpies for the pens. I like how the black marker looks on paper versus a regular ballpoint pen. The retractable ones are great for the characters who have big gloves/hands. They can just pop the button instead of trying to fumble with a lid.

Pins

Did you know you can trade pins with Disney cast members in the parks? It’s another fun activity and way to collect souvenirs. Outfit your little one with a lanyard and a starter set of pins. Then when you’re in the parks they can find cast members with lanyards, and trade pins with them! Some people build up very impressive collections. Of course you can also purchase pins in the gift shops, but this collection is a bargain by comparison and a great way to get started.

Lanyards

Lanyards can be used in a couple ways. They can be used for pin-trading (mentioned above) and they can also be used as a place to store your ticket/Fastpasses. At Disney World you can use magic bands for your fast passes and as your ticket. But at Disneyland and Disneyland Paris, your ticket card is still what is used. To keep it easily accessible, you can store it in a lanyard. That way you don’t have to dig in your pocket/purse every time you need to use it.

Disney Toys/Souvenirs

One of the best money saving tips for Disney vacations is to pre-buy souvenirs! Yes, I know it sounds a little funny but trust me when I say this is a really great trick, especially for younger kids. Buying toys in advance, outside the parks will save you a lot of money. By having one or two things on hand already, you can strategically pull them out when you need to squash the “I wants” or need something to entertain kids while you wait in line or wait for a show.

Another way to use toys is by setting them up in the room as a surprise. We did this by taking the kids out of the room then sending my husband back because he “forgot” something. He went back, pulled the plush toys out of the suitcase where they were hidden and set them on the bed. The kids were blown away when they came back to the room!

Sunscreen

Sunscreen should be worn everyday but it’s especially important when you’re outside all day long. I like to bring 2 kinds:

A sunburn is a fast way to ruin your vacation so it’s definitely important to have it!

Bandaids

Bandaids are a good thing to have on you while you’re at the parks. You never know when someone will trip and scrape a knee, or if a blister will pop up after all the walking. There are first aid centers at each park, but if you have these on hand, it will be easier to do a quick fix and be on your way. Put the bandaids and some Neosporin in a ziplock bag and throw it into your back pack or diaper bag.

Memory Card

And of course, anyone planning a Disney Parks vacation will want to capture all the memories. A memory card would be a great gift to help the family have a place to capture all the fun and magic from their vacation.
