The Best Hotels in Georgia (Country)

So you’re ready to start planning your trip to Georgia (the country)! Now where to go and where to stay? Living here for almost two years gave me the chance to really explore Georgia. There’s so much to see and do in Georgia, it is hard to fit it all in. We’ve done family trips and kid-free trips and these are the places I would happily go back to.

I put together this list of hotels we stayed at and ones recommended by friends so when you’re searching for what to do in Georgia and where to stay in Georgia, you have a tried and true list to start with. We didn’t have a chance to go everywhere we wanted to, but here’s the roundup of the places we would recommend from around the country!

Kids hanging out by the pool at the Sheraton Hotel in Batumi, Gerogia.

BATUMI-HILTON & SHERATON

We stayed at two places in Batumi, the Hilton, and the Sheraton. I give the slight edge to the Hilton because the rooms seemed newer and more updated. However, the Sheraton has a very nice outdoor pool and the Hilton only has an indoor pool.

Both are located very centrally and right on the beach boulevard which is a great place to walk and explore. There are many interesting things along the boulevard! Batumi is building new hotels all the time. You are probably safe booking any of the big box hotel brands.

The blue and mosaic facade of the Golden Tulip Hotel in Borjomi, Georgia.

BORJOMI-THE GOLDEN TULIP

This is the prettiest hotel in town! One look at the mosaic veranda and you will fall in love. The Golden Tulip is a small boutique hotel in the center of the famous spa town Borjomi and steps away from Borjomi Central Park.

I recommend springing for the Royal Suite if it is available because it will give you access to the beautiful porch. We loved sitting out there at night after the kids had gone to bed. Thank goodness for friends who book the fancy room and let you come enjoy it with them!

The hotel offers a small buffet breakfast as well.

Other places to stay in Borjomi:

Exterior of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Borjomi, Georgia.

The Crowne Plaza-this is also a very nice hotel and we have stayed here too. The hotel is bigger than the Golden Tulip and has a full restaurant and lounge to dine in. You will also find an indoor pool and kids club, just call to ask if it will be in operation during your stay, it happened to be closed during ours. It is also located in the center of Borjomi.

Hotel Borjomi Likani-we have not stayed here but it was another recommended place from friends. The perk of this location is the access to nature right outside the hotel. It is also located on the same grounds as the Romanov summer home. As of now, the Romanov palace is closed but when it reopens this hotel is co-located. This one is a little more outside of town, so you wouldn’t have as much walking access to restaurants as you would with the other two options.

Hammocks and bean bag chairs with a view of the mountains at Hotel Fifth Season in Juta, Georgia.

JUTA-FIFTH SEASON

Located in the beautiful mountains of Georgia, Juta is a hiker’s (and Instagrammer’s) paradise. Fifth Season is a small hotel and guest house, bordering on glamping, with killer views.

Something unique to note about this property is that you must hike up to it! This means packing in your luggage (pack in a backpack) or hiring a horse or donkey to pack it up for you. The hike is only about 30 minutes but it’s a steep 30 minutes. You’ll be ready to settle down for some wine and snacks once you get there.

The main building and restaurant with outdoor seating and the Georgian flag flying at Hotel Fifth Season in Juta, Georgia.

There are some different room options. We had a room that was just big enough for the bed and a small private bathroom. They almost look like they are built into a shipping container. I will warn you the walls are thin. The view makes up for that though. You can lay in bed and have a stunning view out of your wall of windows.

There is also a restaurant on-site where you can order typical Georgian fare and drinks. I recommend this place for a kid-free option or to do with older kids.

French style Chateau Buera at Lopota Lake Resort in Telavi, Georgia.

KAKHETI-LOPOTA LAKE RESORT & SPA

Lopota Lake is another all-around hit for families or all adult parties. Lopota Lake seems to have an activity for everyone. The property features multiple outdoor pools and an indoor pool, an on-site winery, vineyards, horseback riding, biking paths, playgrounds, and more!

Lopota Lake surrounded by the hills of Kakheti.

We stayed here twice and I would happily go back a third time! The family rooms are quite large and two floors. Plenty of space for a family of five. Breakfast is normally included in the reservation and is a large buffet style. In the fall you can participate in grape harvesting and stomping! This was a real highlight!

It is located in Kakheti which is the wine country of Georgia. You can easily visit wineries in the area from this resort.

For the full report on Lopota Lake see this article.

Other options in Kakheti:

Lost Ridge Brewery: if you need a break from wine and want to sample some local beer, head here! We never got the chance to stay here, unfortunately, but it had good reviews from friends. I heard it may not be the best with young children but there are activities you can do here like bread baking and horseback riding.

Schuchmann: another favorite of some friends, they said it’s good for kids too! Schuchmann is also a working winery so make sure you sample their vintages.

View of Kazbegi and Stepantsminda from the patio at Rooms Hotel Kazbegi.

KAZBEGI/STEPANTSMINDA-ROOMS HOTEL

This is the go-to spot for staying in Stepantsminda. Rooms Hotel has phenomenal views of Kazbegi, Georgia’s most famous mountain. This is a great getaway from Tbilisi, it only takes about 3 hours to drive there.

Rooms is a stylish modern hotel. It has a sister property in Tbilisi as well. The big draw here in my opinion is the restaurant and deck. The views of the mountain just can’t be beaten and it doesn’t hurt that the food is delicious too. They are known for their breakfast buffet! The hotel also has an indoor pool.

One of the treehouses in the forest of Lagodekhi at Duende Hotel

LAGODEKHI-DUENDE TREEHOUSES

Who doesn’t want to stay in a treehouse?! This property will make you feel like you are living in a magical forest. At this time there are four treehouses for rent with a couple more being built (with glass roofs). Each treehouse has its own patio with a firepit and wood-fired hot tub.

The owners take great care in making sure you have a relaxing experience. You will be welcomed with afternoon tapas and drinks and the room also includes breakfast and dinner each day served in the main house.

From the property, you can walk out to a river and sunbathe or drive a short distance to a few different hiking trails. Make sure you bring your passport with you when you hike, there are some trails that are very close to the border of Azerbaijan and you could be asked to show ID.

I would recommend this as a kid-free option or with older kids who could share their own treehouse.

Camping dome and hot tub at Jewelberry Glamping in Shaguli, Georgia.

MTSKHETA-JEWELBERRY GLAMPING

Jewelberry Glamping is a fun spot where you can camp in a dome! Some of the domes also have hot tubs on the deck. One dome can fit a family of five with an extra mattress. You can use the grills or order food from the restaurant on the property.

Our kids loved coming out here and having a camping experience with their friends. I personally loved having a heated tent when it was cold outside and having access to a private bathroom and shower. The extra conveniences were much appreciated.

This is just outside of Tbilisi, it’s about a 30-40 minute drive from the city. We had also heard of domes in Racha, Georgia but this location was much easier to get to for us.

View of the Paragraph Hotel and pool seen from the pier that extends from the hotel.

SHEKVETILI-THE PARAGRAPH HOTEL

This is THE hotel to stay at in Georgia. Built in 2018 by Georgia’s wealthiest businessman, the Paragraph is a luxury property that is great for any kind of group. Families will love the waterslides, aquarium, kids club, and generously sized family rooms. Everyone will love the giant indoor/outdoor pool, spa, balcony views, on-site restaurants, and black sand beaches.

The colorful indoor waterslides at the Paragraph Hotel in Shekvetili, Georgia.

The Paragraph is truly a resort to unwind and relax. Since it can close off a portion of the pool, and the pools are heated, you can enjoy the resort year-round. Wintertime will give you a much better deal on rates.

The hotel also has a ropes course on the property and sits next to the Dendrological park where you can go take a walk and admire the garden of exotic trees.

Alternate Option in Shekvetili:

If you’re looking for a more budget option near the black sand beaches, try this property. There are several individual cabins each with small kitchens and laundry machines. Very family-friendly, steps away from the beach.

Old Tbilisi and Narikala Fortress.

TBILISI Hotels

As a resident, I haven’t stayed at many hotels here in the city. These are the places I would recommend to anyone visiting though:

Marriott-my husband says this hotel has the best breakfast! Note that it is a different property than the Courtyard Marriott which is also a decent property with a good location.

Sheraton-the Sheraton was recently remodeled and is gorgeous! Don’t miss dinner at ATI to take in the views!

Rooms Hotel-sister property to the one in Kazbegi and has a very modern vibe. Must eat at Cafe Stamba on the ground floor!

Radisson Blu-the location isn’t as central but the hotel is nice and has a spa. You could take a quick taxi to anywhere you wanted to go.

Mixture of white qvevris, used for Georgian wine making.

Extra Hotel Recommendations from friends:

Vardzia Resort-resort near the ancient cave dwellings at Vardzia.

Eco House Merisi (kid-free)-this looks like a great couples’ getaway, got great reviews from a friend.

What about airbnb?

Personally, I have found Airbnb to be very hit and miss here. We have used it on occasion, but I find hotels to be more of a sure bet. If you want to use Airbnb for your trip, I recommend reading reviews carefully and making sure you see all the fine print.

Tips for booking hotels in Georgia

While I appreciate the convenience of sites like Booking.com, we have found the best rates by emailing properties directly. This process of contacting the hotel directly may take a little bit longer, but we have often been afforded a slight discount on the room rate by doing this.

Hopefully, this roundup of hotels gives you some good ideas for places to stay not only in Tbilisi but also in other parts of Georgia. Georgia has a lot to see and do, so make sure you build in some extra time beyond just the capital city! Please let me know if you have other great suggestions in the comments, it might help some other travelers!

If you found this helpful, I would be so grateful if you would share it and save it!
