Hooray, hooray, hooray!
I have made it past 32 weeks! I am over the moon to have made it to this point. If you haven’t been following my pregnancy journey, I have had multiple complications starting around 20 weeks. I have a history of pre-term labor (read what happened with my last pregnancy) and knew I was at risk for it again but had no idea I would be facing so many challenges this time.
There were points in this pregnancy where I was fearful I would never get to meet this baby. My specific issues made me at risk for a preterm delivery, and when it started at 20 weeks it was very scary. Delivering that early would have been before the point of viability. Even up until 28 weeks or so, there is still a huge risk of complications-including the baby’s ability to survive.
I’ve been on bedrest since about 20 weeks. It has been challenging for me to spend so much time laying down, sitting, and unable to do the things I normally do. I am however so grateful that my bedrest isn’t hospitalized bedrest. I can still get up to walk around the house or short distances and I will take that over laying in a hospital bed for weeks on end.
I’ve been doing a lot of lounging, so I’ve been living in comfy clothes like this Pink Blush maternity sweater. It’s slightly oversized which is perfect for this stage in pregnancy. Some of the sweaters and shirts I was wearing early on are now getting a little tight or a little short. This maternity sweater has plenty of room for my still growing belly and is long enough to cover those awkward maternity panels on pants and leggings.
I wore this sweater to the doctor this week. Even just going to the doctor is an occasion to put on some cute maternity clothes and break out of the pajamas! This week I have a lot to celebrate. I went to the doctor for my last cervical length measurement and was able to see the baby!
My measurements looked good and stable, so I was officially released from care from the Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctors (the high-risk doctors at the hospital). Now I continue to rest and hope for no contractions. I’m not totally in the clear, I could still go into labor at any time, my last labor seemed to come out of nowhere. At this point, the baby would still need to be in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), but I feel so much better knowing he would be OK.
The baby is measuring almost 5 pounds already! It is wild for me to look back at pictures of my first son in the NICU and think I have a bigger baby inside of me right now. The NICU is a tough place to be as a parent. I’m really hoping we can avoid any time there with this baby.
I will see my regular OB in two weeks, and then every week until the baby is born. Thanks so much to everyone who continually checks in on me and offers me encouragement. It hasn’t been an easy road, and I’m so thankful to have supportive people around me!
